Hi guys. Ive lost the keys to my baby. Its béen several years since ive replaced one. I know it has to be in the run position when installing the new one. Simple. They come with keys lol. My question is do you have to have a key in run to remove it? If so, would it be better to drop the column and unhook it from the ignition module or just break it. I have the pull down tab you have to press to get key out and fear I may damage it if I try and break it.
All input would be welcome
The cylinder will come out with it in the lock position.
once you remove the lock ring to get into the column all will be good. Remove the retaining screw after you get the signal switch out of the way. And out it will come. Insert a large screwdriver in it's place and turn the mechanism to the on position. You will see the little shaft for the steering lock drop down and you'll be ready to install a new barrel.
The service manual is pretty darned good at explaining the process of ign. barrel replacement.
might want to give it a look over before you start. And make certain you have that spring compressor tool if you have a tilt/teli column.
