There's nothing nicer than getting head nods & thumbs up while driving my '70 coupe. Just this Saturday morning I took her out for a short drive in my crowded urban concrete jungle. Just cruising along and making sure all was running well. I was at a stop light when two 45+ year old guys pulled up next to me. The driver was smiling, thumb extended upward and nodding his head. So, I had to roll down my electric passenger window to engage him a bit. He told me I had a very hot looking Corvette. I thanked him and of course added the common saying, "It still needs some work." He responded saying it sounded great, which made my day. In the past, I've considered changing out the loud Flowmaster mufflers for quieter ones, but now I think I'll keep it as is. That louder exhaust can help cover up some irritating brake squeeks and door rattles.
i was at the gas station last week , and this little boy came up to my car , and said it was really neat , and i asked him if he wanted to sit in it , he was all smiles!!
I definitely get a hell of a lot more thumbs up and positive acknowledgements driving my 1970 than my 2010 Vette. Must be the steel bumpers.
it’s not the bumpers - my bright yellow 77 draws thumbs up and comments wherever I go - some from
guys in their 50s like me but surprising it gets a lot of positive comments from the young man bun, expensive coffee drinking types which surprised me but happens frequently. These guys know it’s a Corvette and know it’s old but most have no clue how old it is - ive had guesses from 65-84 which probably seems ancient to people born this century.
they are also intrigued by the roudy sound of my 383 and of course the 4 speed. The question I get asked frequently - is that a Stingray? Well it’s a 77 so no Stingray badge but I generally say yes just to keep things simple
Evidently these old C3s draw the attention. I've only really been driving mine for the last 3 weeks but people love it. I guess the fact it's bright green doesn't hurt.
I have a lot of vintage cars. My 427 Corvette isn't my favorite- but I think it certainly draws the most attention on the street.
People love it- lots of thumbs up.
I've had the same guy, one of my best friends, doing my vehicle inspections every year for the last 30+ years.
Unfortunately, he's stage 4 now and has closed up his shop.
I was forced to find a new place this year to do my inspections stickers.
That's a major thing for me,
I found a place that the guys working there are all into vintage american iron just like me.
I did a parade of 10 vehicles one at a time last week getting them all done.
Everything is different- all high performance V8s- and all with their own unique & loud voices.
I was especially proud when the shop owner told me that 427 was the best sounding car he had ever heard.
He asked me to get on it leaving so he could hear it.
I ran it up through the first 3 gears- taking it easy though- just to the point of breaking traction in each gear.
Nothing like the high RPM roar of a high compression BBC breathing through Hooker 4" side pipes.

Gotta love it!! Bill, I had the same thing happen a few years ago. Young man was eyeballing my 76 at a cruise nite so his parents brought him closer to see it. Oh, the smile on that youngsters face. I offered to let him sit in the PS seat but the parents were unsure. I talked them into it and we let him sit in it. I had to prompt the parents to get a picture of him in my car. DOH!!! I have to say it made my day and his.

I think it is a great thing to do. At car shows and after judging is over, if I see a kid (with his parents!) that is showing his excitement, I'll ask if they would like to take a pic with their kid in the drivers seat. (I open the door and help them in and out and there has never been a problem). Their reactions are always priceless and the parents don't have to ask their child to smile. It's just a great way to promote our hobby and hopefully preserve it for the next generation coming up.
make sure you take the keys out...these young kids are crafty these days.....
Yes they are! The keys always come out and the battery is disconnected (with a quick disconnect) and the parking park is engaged.
Sorry to hear about your motor. Put a pit in my stomach just reading about it. Going back with the 396 is a good plan for now to get it back on the road to enjoy it and show it off. Keep us updated with your progress.
