Default Speedometer Cable Connection

Has anyone else had difficulty connecting the speedometer cable to the speedo??? I "think" I'm lined up and straight but I cannot get the cable to click into the lock spring clip. Tach cable went together without issue. Any help will be appreciated!

For that reason I bought speedo and tach cables 12" longer than the original (since the original cables were worn/kinked).
I also rerouted the cables thru the firewall using different factory holes so that the cables were directly in-line with the back of speedo/tach (the extra 30 minutes of rerouting was worth it).
Now I have extra room to get my hands behind the cluster to connect cables.

You need to leave the tranny end of the cable disconnected, so you have plenty of slack.
It wouldn’t hurt to inspect the clip on the back of the speedo to ensure it’s not bent or distorted. Also compare your old cable to the new one you purchased, who knows if they sent you the correct cable. There was a poster a few months back that was not able to attach his cable to the speedo. Was that you? Never heard how the problem was resolved.
