Hi Folks, just bought an C3 82 CE. A lot of silly things were done by previous owners and it needs a bit of TLC to get it back to normal again. Can anyone tell me if these two switches are stock? What do they do? Or were they installed by a previous owner?
Yes they are hooked up and the wires go into a birds nest of a mess of wires. Nothing happens when I switch them on/off. The radio, power door locks, and power mirrors, also don't work. All fuses seem to be ok. Somebody did a lot of bad messing about under there.
Shouldn't an 82 have one pull down switch to open headlight doors without turning on lights and a rotary **** to stop wipers in order to replace blades?

I would have thought so too. My 1980 has it, but this CE doesn't have it. Again, I dunno if that is how it was built, or is a previous owner clowned around and removed it. The lights work, and the doors pop up, but there is no way to pop them up without turning the lights on.

The factory switches belong where those two are located. Should be the same as your 80.
Wild **** guess - switch on the left is for a bluetooth adapter. It would have the radio antenna lead going into the box and then back out to the radio. Flip switch on and scan for Bluetooth devices with your phone.

Interesting theory, stingr69. But I just tried it with both ignition on and off, and both positions of the switch, and nothing appeared in my phone. You still might be right, but there is such a mess of jumbled-up wires under the dash, who knows what goes where and what is disconnected? I hope to really pull everything apart next week and start troubleshooting. Thanks for your input.

If you have a electric conversion for the headlights - could be the switch
Black one was common for fog / running lights
Good suggestions, Blue1972. Again, I have not yet determined what is connected and what is not. But thanks for your comment.

As others have mentioned, you are missing your vacuum switch for the headlight override. Do your headlights pop up and down? Perhaps a PO already converted them to electric operation. Are the vacuum. components still there by the headlight buckets?
It looks like your car is also missing a clutch pedal. That's a great "while you're in there" fix if you are going to be working under the dash.
I found the reason for one of the switches. There is a rear fog light tucked away up near the spare wheel. One of the switches controls it. The lights have to be on for power to reach the switch. I had not tried to operate the switch with the lights turned on before. So that is one switch explained.
The other switch is a push button type, just like a tiny horn button. Still don’t know what it does.
The lights are not converted to electric. They still operate on vacuum. One of them doesn’t pop up properly, but I suspect a leak on the vacuum lines. The pull-down switch for the headlight doors is missing. There is a suspicious looking join on the vacuum tube where the pull-down switch should be. Maybe a previous owner accidentally kicked it and broke it. Then the quick fix was to remove/eliminate it. Maybe!
Yes Bikespace, the clutch is missing. I think all 1982 CEs were automatic.
Well I discovered what the second switch does. I said before that it is a push button-type, like a tiny horn button. Well, it turns out that is exactly what it is! A previous owner changed the steering wheel (I have no idea why - the wheel on the car now is ridiculous) and the horn button on it doesn’t work. Today, I removed all fuses, one-by-one. None of them were blown, but I cleaned each one. There was a lot of oxidation on some of them. When I was finished, I decided to start the car just to make sure that I had not upset anything. To my surprise, the radio burst to life! Then I realized that the power mirrors also suddenly work. The power antenna rumbled to life and at this point, I wondered if that second switch might work. I pressed it and the horn sounded!!!!! Surprize surprize! Now I need to figure out why the driver’s seat doesn’t work and why the power door locks do not work. Making progress, bit by bit.
