I have 1 stubborn bolt on my half shaft u-join strap. I have managed to get all of the others out, but this one just wont move and I am concerned I am about to strip the head.
I still need to try some heat, but other than that what else can I do? I am already trying to keep it saturated with PB Blaster...
Heat with PB blaster should do the trick. If you do mess up the head, both the u-bolt or strap and bolt kit should be available locally.
After you get it hot give the head a good hit or two with a hammer...use vice grip pliers set as tightly as. Possible to try to loosen the bolt.
IF the above fails cut the head off the bolt. Remove everything. Use vice grip plies to unscrew the remaing shaft of the bolt.
Use the correct tap to chase all the threads before reinstalling bolts.
Air or electric impact gun and appropriate sized impact socket. I would recommend you Google your local snap-on or Mac or matco dealer and get a professional grade flank drive socket. They grab the flats further from the corners. According to them, they can grab rounded fasteners.
BE careful of how much heat you apply, if you go that route.
If the head gets completely rounded off, cut the head off with a die grinder and carbide Burr or cut-off wheel, work the block off, and then you can grab the remnant with vice grips.
Good luck.
