HI. Guys 70 vette ac about 4 months ago I put a 1991 fan in my car and worked much better than the stock fan but trying to charge the ac the fan stopped working but. when I hook it up to alternater it ran good but it will not power up at the ac wires so Im trying to hook my stock fan again and I know where the black wires go right to the power at the fan but I have one purple wire that I don't know where it goes I would like to keep the 91 fan on but dont. know why it stop if you put to much in the ac compressor will this be the problem. I had to shut the system down. I need to know where that purple wire goes to THANKS FOR YOUR HELP Bob
Similar problem On my 73 with Factory Air, even after replacing the dash switch. The problem was the plastic 50 year old connector (attached to a relay) that is mounted on the hvac box under the hood. I must say that the connector looked ok, and I found the problem, only when I accidentally hit it with a screwdriver.
My car is a 73, and the wiring for the hvac may be different. My car never had that large gauge wire or the rectangular silver item that is attached to your hvac box. There are places on the Forum where you can Dow the wiring schematic for a 1970 car.
Purple wire is the power wire. Goes to the terminal you have a black wire on. Black wire is ground. Goes to a terminal stud attached by one of the mounting screws
Also of note. If your C4 fan ran fine when you connected power to it. The problem is clearly NOT the fan. The problem could be anywhere else. At the air-con switch, At the blower speed switch, at the fuse. (2). At the relay, etc, etc. But when you put power to the fan it ran. So changing the fan sounds like a complete waste of time.
OK guys thank you forr responding its all fixed. with my powerful 91 motor I had to replace my fan switch and. get the wires put back with your help just need to bleed the brakes then take it out for its first ride thanks a lot bob
WELL here I go again, went to the gas Station with my 5 gallon jug went home put it in get my brother bleed the breaks alll good then the car was running good and what is that smell GAS leaking from my new gas tank I cannot win with this car took the spair tire off then drop every thing else to gain to the tank and stupid gasket for the sender is leaking it just hates me.
