OK, so this has been bouncing around my storage tray since I bought my car 30 some years ago.
It's the original factory spare tire lock.
The real issue is, shortly after I purchased the car I replaced both door locks as one was no good. So I don't have a key that fits it all these years later.
Can these be re-keyed? Is this even worth hanging on to? Or is it just an interesting paper weight?
Yes, it can be re-keyed by a good locksmith. Original spare tire locks are hard to come by so I would get it re-keyed and put it on your car. Your round accessory key should be able to open your doors, open the center rear storage compartment, and open the spare tire lock all with the same key.

This is correct… The oval head key operates the storage compartment lock, spare tire lock, and (after mid 1970) the alarm switch.
The spare tire lock is (along with the storage lock) the easiest to re-key, so if you don’t have the oval head key (or if it doesn’t match the storage lock), it is very easy to address the issue.
I've always had a separate key for my alarm switch. And recently I replaced the alarm switch as the original froze up. And in all my years never once tryed to lock that center storage compartment. But perhaps I could get this spare tire lock keyed to match my alarm key. I'll have to check into it. Thanks for the advice.
