Installing my new rear spring. I see the AIM calls for 60-80 ft lbs on the four bolts. So I’m shooting for 70
I’ve gone around in a circle tighting up the bolts, and the front two are at 70. On the back two, one is starting to bend the plate at 60 and the other started bending the plate at 50.
Should I just call it done? Get a new plate and try again?
Also be careful with the two rear ones, lots of them have cracked the diff casting ears.
If you've put any kind of anti-sieze or if the bolts where cleaned (wire wheeled, blasted etc) then reduce your torque 10-15 lbs. That plate is also 50 years old... I'd be happy with 60 but that's me

you make a good point, i always clean the threads on old hardware, so that may be part of the issue. I’m going to leave it where it’s at.
