Can anyone help me with this problem ? My 82 trans only drops fluid after the car sits for a couple of weeks .It has a new pan and selector seal and speedometer seal. thanks mike.T
Or perhaps the modulator seal or output shaft seal...
Place a piece of brown cardboard under the car to see where on the trans the drip is coming from. That should help narrow down what seal is in that location.
If it's the tranny pan gasket you can try a Lube Locker gasket. I just ordered one yesterday for my 200-4R because I'm tired of the weepy cork & rubber units. Reports say they're wonderful so we'll see. If this doesn't work my next step will be to use THE RIGHT STUFF --- I personally know that stuff works great.
Anyway - take a peak; a bit much for one gasket but I'm tired of the leaks (I believe the 82 has a 700-R4):

Can you see where? Which side of the car? If its the passenger side, look at the kick down cable seal. Its kind of a PIA.... I did all my seals and that was the one that still leaked after doing all the others like you did.
Also check the lines coming from radiator,I assume you have short rubber lines between the metal tube lines, could be running down the line making it appear coming from tranny.
Most tranny leaks are full time issues.
First clue.
You stated the car sits for a couple weeks then drips. During storage periods, everything in the trans begins draining into the pan.
The dipstick tube "O" Ring becomes taxed to its limit on how much extra ATF it can hold back.
If you put the front end up on ramps, some of the ATF will flow to the rear of the pan. Remove dipstick, unbolt the dipstick tube. With a brand new "O" Ring in hand
and a o ring pick, you can swap-out the ring somewhat quickly without losing too much ATF.
As a extra precaution, I smeared a dab of Permatex Transmission RTV on the tube also.

As said, you need to put paper or some such under to see exactly where the fluid is coming from, having cleaned the underside of the trans completely first.
I have changed the speedo drive seal in our '78, yet it still drips a little after the car has stood for a few weeks! I've got a selection of new O rings, but it's a pain to get to on ours, due to the configuration of the one-off exhaust, so I'm afraid I've lived with the leak!😱
Case connector for the electronics can leak too, the dip stick tube was another one mentioned ... Torque converter drain back when it sits over fills the pan , loose pump bushing to converter hub allows it to leak faster but even with new bushings and converter they still bleed down
Drivers side trans leak - '82 collectors edition maybe the speedo gear seal?
Can anyone advise what this leak would be caused by? '82 collector edition driver side trans leak. Can this be replaced with the transmission still in the car? Will the cross member support need to be removed?

Reason: clarification on transmission removal
your picture is of the speedometer assembly , there are two seals in this unit plus the driven gear itself can wear a groove where the seal rides making it leak
Dip stick tube , case through connector and TV cable are the three seals you haven't replaced yet and they are common to leak after sitting a few weeks after the torque converter drains fluid back into the pan causing an over-full condition where the speedo assembly usually leaks after a drive cycle .... all of these items can be repaired without transmission removal
Thanks. I've seen some videos of breakdowns and replacement of those mentioned seals for the speedometer gear. Is it possible to remove and replace those two seals pictured? It was a tight fit to get the picture
