Default Tail light bracket Question

To my knowledge only 1974 fiberglass tail light brackets will work on a 1974 Vette. They are a convex affair that mounts right to the end of the main body by bolts and rivets. What I would like to know is if the 75 -79 brackets are of the same depth dimension. I can find them but they have a tab that won't let them mount on a 74. I can cut that off if they are the right depth, but I don't want to buy them if they won't work. Anybody have a clue? thanks, and if you know where there is a set of 74 mounting brackets please let me know. I listed a request on the parts page as well as this. Thanks ever so much, Tom (Akejama)

It's been years since we parted out any 74's or 75-79's, and I don't recall exactly how they went together. I do know the 74 lamps mount differently then 75-79 lamps, because of that I don't know that anything but 74 tail lamp supports will work.

The 74 lamps have studs on the back that get nuts to install them. 74 lamps attach to the support and the bumper goes on after. The 75-79 rear bumper goes on before the lamps, and the lamps mount with screws that go through the lamp and thread into tall nylon nuts installed in a metal retainer behind the bumper.

Back when we were parting out a lot of cars I had a pile of tail lamp supports. I still have some and I can look tomorrow, but I don't think I still have any 74's. I'm pretty sure all I have is a couple 75-79's.
