My newly rebuilt 350 needs a water pump. I'm looking at the Stewart pumps from Summit. Specifically the 13103 Stage 1 cast iron and 23103 Stage 2 aluminum models. Both are high volume, short, CW rotation with 3/4" shafts and 5.795" length.
1) First off, are these the correct pumps for my '71 350cu/270hp 4-spd coupe with a new Dewitts radiator using a single large SPAL fan?
2) Stewart says the statge 2 pump requires one of their high flow modified thermostats. Will another brand of high performance or high flow thermostat also work since Summit doesn't appear to list the Stewart stats?
3) With about a $50 price difference, is there a reason not to upgrade to the stage 2?
4) Any brands other than Stewart I should be looking at for my use on this hopefully soon to be weekend cruiser restoration?
I've had a Stewart Stage 1 in my car for about 20 years now. It works perfectly. If I had to do it over again I would probably spend the extra $$$ and buy the Stage 2 just for the slight weight savings from the aluminum construction.

Thanks for your help
Stewart Stage 2 is what I went with almost 20 years ago. They are a great pump. You can use another thermostat, but you need to drill some 3/16" holes in them for flow. The stage 2 pump does away with the internal bypass.
I called Dewitts and they said the stage 2 stewart pump would be too much for my direct fit radiator and fan combo that I got from them. They recommended that I just go with a standard flow pump. Therefore I think I'll look for the Stewart 13103 pump along with a "normal" 180* thermostat.
Since I'm not going to use the original fan & clutch but am switching to a single 16" SPAL fan, I'm not too worried about clearance.
They even said that the standard pump with their radiator & fan combo would be able to handle adding air conditioning if I elected to do that later.
Just a question within this post................
I have a 78 stock 350-L48 and would like to know exactly water pump would I need for the planned swap out??
You will need the Corvette specific pump for a 78. It's just a little longer than a "short" pump but shorter than a "long" pump. Stewart sells the Corvette pump in stage 1 and in stage 2. If you use the wrong pump your belts will not line up.
