I have chrome but want to paint it semi gloss black like I did in the past. Parts store didn't have anything and I can't remember what I used before. What are you guys using these days? I have the primer...
Pretty sure my 79 is anodized black. It looks like a mid to high gloss black.
if you are removing trim, i would powder coat the parts. Be mindful of excessive paint where they fit together. Most oem trim was powder coated in the past.
I would, but I think mine has a few chips ..would probably need to be re-sprayed too. I don't think it'll save you much work. Then there is the A-pillar and windshield trim...

It's black on mine. I think the previous owner removed the paint on the rear and bottom panel for the polished look.
You're probably right. There might have been unsightly rock chips, exposing the shiny SS trim, and they (he) just removed all the black so they wouldn't continue to chip up (??). Or maybe he liked the earlier chrome contrasting look (80's were SS), esp if your car was ever painted a dark color. Just a guess ...Who knows, right?
