Default Carpeting on a 77'

I just ordered new front carpet for my 77' " from OC Autocarpets. What is the installion like, is it pretty much plug and play. how much trimming is involed... Do I need to use any 3-M adhesive spray, also OC Autocarpt does sell them, but a few vendors sell " Rubber firewall carpet Fasteners " there little plugs that go through the carpet and into the firewall to hold the capet in place... Do I need to use them

It should fit right in.
I used 3M spray when I put new insulation under my factory carpet.
I just used foil backed that I bought at a hardware store. Cut to fit & sprayed the floor.
I've never heard of the firewall fasteners...

I replaced the front carpet in mine many years ago. And it's holding up extremely well. No fasteners of any kind. Door sill plate and kick panel holds it tight on one side, console holds it on the other.
yes you need to cut little flaps for seat mounting bolts at front of seats. And yes a little trimming. Trim a little at a time. You can't put it back on. Take your time.

I just finished this on my car last week, the above advise is rock solid.

The only thing that I can add is I glued it all down using Permatex Spray Adhesive, where the original carpet is just tacked in particular spots. I started sticking it down at the foot well, then worked towards the firewall, followed by the sides. Work towards the rear leaving the final trimming of the sides until the very end. I kept the console sides and sill plates handy for reference as well. To make the holes for the seat bolts, I used an old sacrificial socket on a 8" extension, heated it up nice and hot, and then placed it on the carpet and twisted it by hand as it melted its way through.....the holes came out nice and clean. If you try this, do it on a scrap piece first to try it out.
Regarding the carpet plugs, my car (a late '77) didn't have any up front and only had the 3 in the back storage compartment. I couldn't find any required in the '77 AIM as well.

Work slowly and this is how it'll turn out....way better than the worn out crap that was there before!

A pencil soldering iron works great for making holes in the carpet for seats, seat belts and etc. Use a few long scratch awls to located holes, before any carpet trimming is done. Leave new carpet in a car that is parked in the hot sun all day, being warm it will contour real easy. GO Slow, cut a little at a time.

news,
How was the pricing for you carpet set?
I also need a full carpet set for my car so I went to OC Auto Carpet's site and found the set I wanted, part number 3601 cut pile, advertised on sale $309.26, which seemed like a decent price. But when I put it into my cart the price jumped up $20.17. I emailed them to ask why and they responded with "I may have an old link to their site or may need to refresh my browser" which is just about the lamest excuse I've ever heard. So I go back to their current and active web site and decide to get the cut pile set, part number 22564, instead because the price is lower. I put it in my cart and it also jumps up $20 from the advertised price.
I e-mail them again about this and they respond that the manufacturer has just had an increase in price. WTF? Make up your mind! So they can add the increase when it's time to check out but not in their advertising?
I know it's only $20 but, the advertised price should be the price you pay. If they have not updated their site, that's not the customer's fault. I wanted to be happy there, but I'm a little disappointed. I think I'll keep shopping.
Cheers, Greg

I just got a set from OC for my 78 and could not have been happier with the phone service or the price. Yes, by the time I got done my price had gone up but I also ordered an extra yard of fabric and the matching floor mats. Then shipping ( $86 and tax, so my total was over $600 but I think that is a good price for what you get. But the price in my cart for the carpet set itself was exactly what the site said it would be.
