Default Copper header gaskets

Hello all, I'm getting ready to install Doug's headers and want to upgrade to SCE copper gaskets, I read I should get oval port for the Doug's headers, just wanting to verify that the oval port is what I'm looking for
1980 L48

Also whats best shorty spark plugs... 0576s accel?

Yes, the oval port gaskets need to match the header ports. Had to special order them.

Try not to over tighten the gaskets. Check and retighten after about 500 miles. The bolts will loosten a few times before they settle down.

I did not need to use shorty plugs. I did use Jeg's ceramic boot wires and ran them under the header tubes similar to stock. I did not run #4 thru the motor mount as it needs a creative route to clear the down tube. Rest were fine.

#4 wire ran back rather than down so as to clear the tube. All the rest were fine with stock routing.

I like the look of running the wires underneath. Cleaner that way.

Not a fan of the copper gaskets.......never had a set that sealed.....
The Graphite Fel Pro or Remflex are my go to......I will only use Remflex for sidepipe headers......that and studs if possible.....
You need to find the headers gaskets that have ports as close as possible to your header ports....not the head ports.....but you know that. Measure five times and order once.....

Thanks guys... I did get the head studs and cut to fit wires with 90 degree plug ends and plan to run under headers, the oval port gaskets do appear to be best fit against the Doug's headers from all that I read, haven't ordered gaskets yet but will tonight when I get home from travel and will look into above suggestions, just don't want to use the Doug's supplied gaskets, I will probably pursue the shorty plugs but still not sure which ones from accel 0576s and 0276s keep coming up.

Thanks again gents

Back in the day when I was building pro-stock mouse motors, I would port the heads, then cut the gasket to match the head ports, then use the gasket as a stencil to mark and grind the headers to match the gasket..

thank you, I ordered the copper already.

Got all disassembly done yesterday, mocked up passenger side, header went in without issue and pipe lines up pretty nicely (haven't installed insert yet, looks like it will be a bit of a task)
drivers side header install is next and looks harder than the passenger side, actually looks like the car needs to be higher for that side... so far so good, i will be happy if drivers side goes in even close to the passenger side ease.

Done and couldn't be happier, bigger job than expected but did a number of things while I was at it. Took it for a short ride and love the sound... I expected a little louder and quite happy that it's not crazy loud, will leave the mid "glass pack" inserts for now. Thanks for all the help and advice along the way
