Hi guys, i got a 327 from 1969 in my corvette 1972 and one of the stud mount(the one closest to the fender) just broke off in the head and can"t be extracted. My finger is on the problem
Is there any other bracket out there that i can use to re mount my alternator. heres some pictures
I would try welding a nut on it first.... if that didn't work I'd remove the head and take it to a machine shop to get it removed.
Heck - if you can drive it to a machine shop they might be able to remove it with the head on the car.
To me it looks a bit below the surface for the nut welding trick. I'd just drill it. If it doesn't wish to budge with a easy out. Then I'd drill it oversize and put in a heli-coil and move on. All of this would take well under an hour. I've delt with a lot worse than this. This one looks easy.
You have a decent center started, keep drilling it out, 1/2" deep should be enough
Final bit size 1/4" ...
Pull your valve cover & gasket...
Heat the area around the broken stud until the broken stud is red hot, MAP gas isn't going to do it...
But I guess you could try....
Using a dinner candle (your choice of colors) plunge it into the red hot broken stud for 3-5 seconds...
Let it cool just a little...
Insert a #4 ez-out into the hole you drilled and seat it with a hammer. Don't seat it anymore than necessary...
Broken stud should come out no problem...

No AC car.
can you mount the alternator on the other side and re-route the wiring?
I agree with DWA, if you can’t make headway drilling and retapping the hole, I would lean towards swapping the alt to the pass side vs pulling the head (unless you’re ready to upgrade heads, of course. In that case it’s a win/win)
You could spray oil on it and let it set overnight then get a smaller dia left hand drill and it might just pull it out . Try a 5/16 lefthand drill but center drill the stud 1st as to not let the drill walk and damage the threads
