'70 Corvette Wagon...

I can't find a single image of a flocked car from the 70's!
(maybe I dreamed it)
Much of what was considered acceptable in the 70's for custom work may not stand the test of time, but one has to put it all into the context of the era. While polyester shirts unbuttoned to your navel, a **** hair cut and platform shoes were almost guaranteed to get you laid in 1978. Today? Well, not so much.
One forgotten trend I kind of liked back in the 70's was the "flocked" paint jobs. I grew up in Seattle and there were several "Velva-Car" paint shops around town. It was very popular with the low rider group but you'd also see it done on hot rod Camaros and nice Cadillac sedans and 60's era T-birds. They would draw a crowd in every parking lot. Surprised that has never shown back up again in some form.
I always keep an eye out for one of these Greenwood Sportwagons. Maybe a tired, neglected one sitting in a garage somewhere that I could have some real fun with and not have to be concerned with numbers or originality at all.... tunnel ram, Cragar SS wheels and a nice era correct custom paint job.
Cheers, Greg

This car is $18500. That’s pretty cheap. And it has a 454 and 4sp. Might even be the original motor. Wouldn’t that be funny.
I think this could be a pretty interesting car if you put the 68-70 rear and front back on. I was serious about some type of Mako nose. Maybe some slit Motion type taillight set up. I’d go that route. Leave the flares, the Daisies look great. I would say trash the phone……..but really, this could be a blast.
I have three 69’s I’m working on right now. Original cars. If I had endless room I would grab this car/wagon/time machine…whatever…it’s right my alley for a fun, who cares kind of ride. It’s cheap! A great diversion from the original cars.
Thanks Ed.I looked at this one and figured it was over-priced by about $13,500. And I'd be afraid to offer him $5,000 because he might accept.
I see it has no plates on it so I asked the seller if it was registered in California yet. He did not reply so I think I got my answer. That means a boat load of fees and paperwork, especially because it's from out of country, not just out of state.
Ad mentions a "small blemish" on the driver's front fender but you can see by the silver overspray on the tire that he just sprayed the fender with a rattle can 2 minutes before he took the picture.

And that back seat and carpet aren't covered in black Skittles... that's rat **** from an Alberta barn, and rat **** doesn't equal "patina".
No under hood pictures either but I'll bet they would show decades of neglect, hard cold climate rust and more evidence of rodents spending their winter holidays under there. I can't figure out guys who expect to turn a profit but are too lazy to even clean a car before listing it.
I agree with you that body mods with earlier front and rear would make the car show much better but even if you got it for free, it wouldn't be worth it.
I think a guy would be further ahead to trash the car and keep the phone.

Cheers, Greg

Even if you’re not trying to be…..because what you’re saying is true.
I get it. I did see the show pic was from Canada. I didn’t even think of that.
I want to get one at some point. I guess it just reminds me of being a kid and seeing them around.
I NEVER saw one of these growing up. Just too young, but I have to say, I LOVE the Greenwood version. You don't have to have lived in the 70's to appreciate that design. It's just freakin' cool! Me want one!
Not the same generation, but point being - The C4 Corvette wasn't designed to be convertible, but ASC Inc started doing the conversions, which GM approved of and revived the Corvette convertible.
I wonder why such a cool design from Greenwood was never put into production. I know that is a question that cannot be answered by anyone here, but it is a valid question nonetheless.
I think I'll hold out for the Greenwood if one ever comes along, although it has to be a manual.

Like I said, it talked to a guy who would frequent a few car shows regularly for years. He looked like the warlock on the hood of the car ...or a tall Edgar Winter. He used to sleep in the back of it ...and he was like 6' 2", or 6'-3! I'm like, "Seriously!?" He's like, "Oh yeah ...a lot," ..like it was no big deal. I would wonder how the heck he fit inside! Must have put the seat forward. I'm pretty sure it was the same car as in the Old Cars Weekly story (Old Cars Weekly is out of WI). Judging by the article, a younger guy owns it now. The former owner, was up there in age, even years ago. And I hadn't seen the car at shows in a while.
