You can get replacement cables through general auto parts stores. They are universal cables that are supposed to be cut to length with a square drive tip that is glued on. Use your old one as a length template.
I’m pretty sure my current sheath/cable is one of the too long aftermarket cables. So I’m looking for the entire assembly.
Perhaps going with a good condition used one is the way to go. There are a number of guys offering used parts who may have just what you're looking for - though I can't recommend anyone specifically. Perhaps others here will suggest sources.
