Default Matching numbers

Can someone tell me what the two numbers on the engine block means? I see the longer of the two containers the vin numbers. What is the shorter alpha numeric stamp tell me?

It gives the engine plant, build date and usage/horsepower code.

The engine code starts with either a "T" for Tonawanda (where big blocks are built) or a "V" for Flint where small blocks are built. The next two digits are numbers for the month the engine was assembled (01 through 12), followed by two more numbers for the day (01-31). Finally there are two or three letters that identify the engine. If you post the whole series here one of us will be able to identify the engine for you.

The VIN is for a 1978 Pace Car with an L82. That, plus the 4-speed, make for a very rare vehicle.
