Hello all, have a 1969 vett my dad gave me once I turned 18...20 years later and finally getting to it. Car has 52,288 miles on it, sat in a "toy shop" in the northwest for about 20 years on blocks out of the elements. Dad only put on about 2000 miles on it himself. Some years ago, I did do a little work on it and got it fired up but it would not idle at all. Now, in a lower elevation in texas so not sure if that is adding to anything. There looks to be a spot on the body of the carb that a plug was drilled out and filled with epoxy olor something....so with that being said, I don't think rebuilding the carb is what I want to do...or should do and need some input on if I should buy a new (to me) quadrajet or switch it up...I am not a mechanic but have ability and tools...but as far it comes to tuning a carb...I could get it...but I have 3 daughters and little time to tinker. If that was the case I'd stay weeks in the garage at a time!
small history of work ive done to give an idea of what I can do (not much I'll shy away from)
Replaced knock sensors on my 2002 5.3 silverado
2014 silverado
tire/oil/air filter/cabin filter/ac condenser
Im handy but more of a woodworker, but am from a trucking family....and work in IT lmao bout an oxymoron here...with common sense.
Anyways, figured I'd start with the carb, then move onto brakes, then suspension. If anyone has any additional input as to the process I should follow, thing to check health of, things I should probably avoid and have a mechanic do, etc...
Take a bunch of good, sharp pictures of the carb and email them to V8FASTCARS@Msn.com. There is no one on the planet that knows more about Qjets than Lars. He’ll give you guidance on whether or not what you have is rebuildable.
Once you’ve posted a few more times, you’ll be able to upload on the forum.

Welcome to the forum!
HAHA. Just about everyone in the PNW is in IT. Especially in the Western WA (Seattle) or Oregon (Portland) regions, of which more than a few moved to Texas and surrounding states....
There's a rule around here. No pics, no help, and obviously, there's more to your C3 than a carb. Pictures of the car (engine bay, chassis, interior) would be nice.

To add to what ZL1 is saying: Welcome a few other new members to the forum or comment on how beautiful someone’s car pictures are. I think that’s a good way to build up enough posts to satisfy the requirement. It would build up your required number of posts without a lot of unnecessary nonsense posts and get you able to post your pictures sooner. Most of us are interested in seeing your car or your qjet so that we can get to the point of better advising you. Good luck in your quest and welcome to the forum. Also, the search feature is your friend. Much has already been hashed out about Quadrajets before. Good detailed pictures of the carb are very helpful in diagnosis.

Your priorities I’m sound pretty good to me: we have 4 girls, and now that they are grown and on their own, there are times I wish I had spent more time in the house and less with the cars.

Did they ever express any interest in your cars, growing up? And did you ever encourage it? With four girls, there's generally a pretty decent chance at least one will trace fairly close to Dad's hobbies. I've known plenty of women who are gearheads. Cool cars aren't just for dudes, and spending time in your hobby is something you should never regret, so long as it is balanced.
Parents need some free time for their hobbies too as part of a well-balanced life, and if the kids share an interest in your hobbies, even better. Parents who live in the extremes - either spending all their time for themselves and neglecting the children. OR on the other end of the spectrum, spending every moment of their free time worrying about their kids at the expense of their own happiness often are unhappy people - especially when the kids grow up and leave the nest. Either scenario leads to unhappiness and regret... Balance is key. Apologies for the tangent, but regret is often unproductive.

I am in New Braunfels.....you could bring me the carb, I do all kinds of work and specialize in C2/C3 Corvette's, I am mainly an engine builder........send pics to Jebbysan@mail.com of the part # on the drivers side of the carb and the carb overall.......DO NOT BUY a "re-man" or "new" carb......95% of what is out there is junk......
If you have no time to work on it I could get the car back to running condition......but I would have to have it at my place.......

I like that you're close! Will probably get with ya after the new year to be honest. Tried looking ya up and found your Facebook page then found a post from ya on here from March replying with your shop details. Understood its a hobby/part time deal....same goes for my woodworking stuff. I'll shoot ya an email so, for one, I have it in my contacts, two, to get ya some pics.
I know there is the other guy on here everyone seems to send their carbs too, but I like that I can go see you....I work in IT, but prefer to work face to face with someone.
