As I gather information on C3's for a future purchase, I looked at one over the weekend. It was a 78. The muffler clamp couldn't be much more than 2 1/2" off the ground. Super low. Is that just a wore out suspension?

Could just be a I’ll fitting exhaust system. If you stand back from car and car seems level, it’s likely the exhaust. There are so many reproducers of exhaust that do not do a good job bending pipes. And also people that just do not know how to install.

Did you take any pictures?

Perhaps knowing what color the car was would help us guess the cause.

If you mean the clamps forward of the mufflers I made a little more clearance by putting them nut side up. Also looks cleaner...

Look at the car....does it look like it is sitting low? 78-79's sit high in the front from the factory and have a "dog squat" look to them......forget the muffler clamp, how does the car sit?

check your spring bolts . They should be 6 5/8 long from factory . Could be PO installed ling bolts that would lower the height

Post the sale link if you need to. The low stance could be a sagging rear spring, or intentional, or exhaust, or who knows what.
