Although there are numerous threads about the vacuum system, I cannot find any info about the "vacuum solenoid" attached behind the tachometer. What is it for and how do you test it?
Joe, please mention the year of your Corvette. Only the 68-72 Corvette had the electric solenoid behind the tachometer for the wiper panel that hides the wiper blades.
There are also vacuum operated valves for the front headlights and also the wiper panel or "wiper door". These are not electric, but are vacuum actuated. I hope that this helpes you out. Lou.
But to answer your question.
From another post (check down around #22) https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...lem-ugh-2.html The wiper switch, when turned on, sends an electric signal to the "tach solenoid" which shuts off the vacuum at the solenoid and opens the rest of the line all the way to the relay to open the door. with the wiper switch off, the solenoid lets the vacuum through. It goes in the back port where the wires are and out the SIDE port at the other end, the straight port on that end is the vent. Check for vacuum at the end where the wires are. if there's vacuum there, the solenoid is suspect
Mooser; thank you for the information about my 'vacuum solenoid.' As you were helpful to me, I hope that I can assist others as well (once I figure out this forum procedure.)
