Default New power steering control valve question

Just installed a new control valve in my 71. Should there be any play in the ball joint. When I turn the steering side to side the ball moves side to side in the valve about 1/8 inch. Thinking this is not right. J

If your engine is not running, thus pump not turning. This is correct. Once under pressure this play will all but go away. This movement is how it switches the fluid from one direction to the other.
