Default shop Manual

I have a 1969 and want to get a shop manual. There seem to be a few. I would assume I am better off with the specific 1969 manual. But there is the 66 to 73 manual. Is one significantly better than the other?

I assume those that already own one would know.

You'll find there was no specific Corvette shop manual published until 1979. Otherwise Corvette was bundled with other Chevrolets in a unified shop manual and titled Passenger Car Service Manual. The Chassis Overhaul Manual is a typical publication. Before you buy, ask for the table of contents to ensure its what you're looking for. I've never seen that 66-73 shop manual...its, in all liklihood, an aftermarket publication.

I'm sure the 69 members can provide even further detail.

For my 73 Chevrolet combined all models in on large book. It’s not great, but I trust it more than one of the manuals published by outside companies. The AIM for your specific year is also extremely helpful.

Small detail: The C2 has Corvette specific GM manuals. '63 is the "master" with a '64 and a '65 as supplements to that. 1966 was the beginning of grouping Corvette with other models. I don't believe the C1s had year specific manuals but am not well-versed in C1.

While the '66-'73 book will be widely applicable since there's not a huge difference in the overall big picture for those years, there are component and tech changes over those 8 years that are better addressed in a year specific book. Better to go with the more year specific combined-model GM publications. I recommend getting the '69 Service Manual as an everyday reference and the '69 Overhaul Manual for in-depth major component (engine, trans, rear, etc) rebuilding.
