Default C3 Car Cover

Just put a deposit down on a 77 C3 today. We don't have a garage or carport. Historic district doesn't allow any temporary structures either. We will be moving in a year or so.

I noticed a leak in the corvette on the door sills. In all fairness, we just had a flood warning this week. I'll replace the seals.

Can I get by with a car cover in a shaded area between my home and fence. It will be parked on a concrete driveway. Love to hear any suggestions on a car cover that you've used.

Where in the world are you? What's your climate?
The last thing you want is for a cover to trap moisture on/in the car - a shaded spot won't help that.
Have you considered a rental storage unit or other covered storage?

Atlanta, Georgia

Haven't looked into the cost or a storage unit. I'd consider it though. Is climate control really necessary?

It's not a collector car by any means. Above average driver that we plan to use frequently.

You have a nice, clean looking '77.
I don't think climate controlled is necessary. Atlanta isn't particularly concerning like a locale that gets a lot of snow or incessant rain all winter long. Regardless, I'd want the car to stay relatively dry and protected from the elements. If that's not possible, I'd want to maximize evaporation of any moisture in and under the car which is why I'm not keen on covers on stored outdoor cars.

I agree with 67;72. It's a pretty nice looking 77. I would definitely get it inside somewhere until you get a garage of your own. Besides moisture, you have to prep for vermin (mice, snakes, anything that nests). Keep it nice. Outside isn't the way to go.

Good luck.

My 77 spent a fair bit of time outdoors years ago. I like the Wolf outdoor car covers.

Forget outside storage. Find a 10 by 20 storage unit. Climate control isn't necessary.
Mine's had a garage from day one and it's original paint. Cool color....

I live in Marietta, Ga. and because of my addiction to old cars, I have three that stay outside most of the time. The best car cover material will let some amount of water get through to the car paint. The reason is so that the cover can breath, and not trap any condensation. My 73 convertible is certainly far from being Water Tight. On occasion when left outside, I place a few towels around the windows where the leaking usually occurs. I do the same when giving her a bath. The best covers are from Cover Craft as they honor their warranty.

Also put something like Damprid or a product that absorbs moisture inside the car when it's closed up. Mold grows really fast.

Agreed, my little MX5 lives outside under a cover. And I have to keep renewing the damp rid container, or it gets damp and musty smelling.
No room in the garage. The Vette wins.

The other thing to consider is if the wind comes up for what ever reason the cover can scuff the paint.

I've read that. But my experience is, if you purchase a good fitting custom cover. It's really a none issue. Now if you buy one of those generic covers. Yes they flap around.

OP said he planned to use it often. That is the best thing you could do for it. Keep it waxed , drive the heck out of it, enjoy!! You also mentioned only a year or so , it should be fine.

Cover Craft sells adjustable rope ties with plastic clamps that attach to the car cover. When the winds are predicted to be around 12 mph, I make sure to attach three of them to each my outside cars. Normally I will keep one rope tie on each car. As soon as I win the Lottery, I will purchase a storage building so that I can keep all my cars inside.
