I will try to get my car into a shop where it will be disabled. If I want to move it around the shop with no rims, what supports do you guys recommend?
If you need to have access to the hubs/suspension, then you’ll need to get a cradle with casters to set the frame rails onto. Similar to what a lot of guys do for frame off restos, but heavy duty enough to carry the whole car weight (not wood!) Not sure if anyone makes one to directly fit the Vette, so you might have to get one fabricated. Either way, it will be spendy.
If you don’t need hub/suspension access, lots of places sell wheel dollies that have a hub adapter that bolts to the bare hub. Still spendy (in my book), but should be less than a cradle.
There's this type as described above. That run about $320 plus shipping for 4.
Or this type that may be what you're looking for as the attach to the frame.
I'll be taking the rear arms out for new bearings. The shop can't have the car on a lift of the time it may take. So, this a way not to inconvenience the shop.
The front wheels will be on. Obviously, the rears will not.
Could you just pull the arms yourself and bring them to whoever is replacing the bearings? Really not that hard a job, especially if you keep track of the shims as they come off.
I just put a square of wood on a set of car tire dollies (to cover the "dip") and place jack stands on them to hold up the chassis. Works fine for moving the car around my garage but probably would NOT be the way to go with your car a commercial garage...
