Hello, I am getting ready to redo my seat covers in 1971 Corvette. It currently has leather seat covers with a trim code of 412 which I believe that is for dark blue vinyl. Just want to make sure which is correct before I order the covers, or does it matter.
For '71 there were only 2 leather colors: black (403) & saddle (420). Code 412 is dark blue vinyl, as you stated. What are the other colors in the interior (door panels, dash, carpet)? What is the exterior color on the car and the code on the trim tag?
The leather covers have a different stitch pattern than the vinyl, so make sure you compare the two material designs. Leather is also a smooth finish while the vinyl is a patterned "comfort weave" — look at the texture on your sun visors. If you are looking for originality, go with the vinyl.
I’d recommend you buy the covers and a fresh set of foam from Al Knoch.
Forgot to mention that you can get any of the '70–74 colors in leather, even though they weren't offered from Chevrolet for a particular year. Al Knoch's website lists them in both materials.
The car is in its original bridgehampton blue and all the other interior is blue and the door panels have the wood grain panels on them but the woodgrain is nowhere else.

I'm thinking it should be a standard interior (non-leather) given the vinyl 412 code. Bridgehampton only had black or blue as published color choices so with the other blue pieces, 412 makes sense since the blue wasn't offered in leather. The deluxe interiors had leather seats, wood veneer on the door panels & center console, a carpet & chrome strip on the bottom of the door panels, and plush cut-pile carpet rather than the 80/20 loop. I'm not sure if all '71s had the chrome trim on the pedals or just the deluxe interiors.
