i just replaced the shifter boot which means I unscrewed the shifter ball and handle so I could pull out my center console. Got the boot replaced and put everything back together.
I no longer need to pull up on the handle to put it into reverse and I have a hell of time telling where 1st. I try to shove it into reverse. Very weird. What could I have screwed up?
The rod drops down preventing you from going into reverse. The spring pushes the rod down.
when you pull up on the T handle. Do you feel resistance?
Years ago I had the T handle break free from the rod. I could not pull the rod up. I could not get reverse.
I was at the supermarket. I had to sit and wait for the owner of the car parked in front of me to move so I could get home.
So.
Take that back apart. What's going on with that long rod?
When down it blocks the shifter from going into reverse.
Is it going down? Is it broken?
The new shifter boot that installed had a metal collar on it that would not allow the handle to function properly. I removed the collar and BAM. Good as new.
