Hey guys, new to my 71 convertible vet. Now I know these cars are noisy, but looking to see if there are any oiling types/tricks to cutting down on the squeaking on my convertible top when its up?
Agreed on lubing the rubber where it meets the body as #1. For #2, enlist a passenger to try to isolate the location of the squeak. If at the header, the latches may need to be adjusted for a more snug fit.
Back in '77, I got tired of my convertible top jostling around over every bump, and the body flexing when driving over a driveway curb with a one front wheel first, etc.. Sooooo, I bought a removable hardtop to install. Cured the rattling, and a lot of body flex. Just have to be careful with installing the mounting hardware. It's a black vinyl top and, IMHO, really dresses-up the red car.
My 73 has a hardtop and every time I hit a bad bump the hardtop makes a loud cracking noise. I installed a spreader bar thinking that would help. It drives me crazy.
