Default 1973 Mufflers

What are best stock sounding mufflers for a 73 L-82?

Thank you for any information.

I purchased a complete stock exhaust system with mufflers from Volunteer Vetts. The OEM mufflers were round, but many guys replace the round mufflers with Oval Shaped Mufflers (they were used on models after 1973). I was forced to go with the round mufflers, because I had bought a set of chrome 1973 Tips that will not fit on the oval mufflers. If you want the stock mufflers, they were painted black at the factory. I read that The factory used gloves to apply black paint to the mufflers. I searched and found some aerosol black paint used for outdoor grills. I wanted to use a paint that was suitable for high heat.

Thank you for your feedback. About three years ago I replaced the Borla mufflers with what I thought were stock mufflers. They were round and I believe to your point they should be oval. Additionally, they sounded nearly as loud as the Borla, particularly under acceleration. I doubt the factory mufflers were that loud.
Thanks again.

I was forced to go with the round mufflers because I already purchased new 1973 chrome tips, that wouldn’t fit oval mufflers.
