Just noticed a very small chip in back window of my 1980. I have phoned some auto glass repair shops in my area and they said that it may be tempered glass and if so the resin repair will not work. Has someone else had this problem.
There have been a few on ebay. Shipping will be the deal killer. Also, from experience, get a set of trim clips before you start. These are old plastic clips that most likely will break when taking the trim off, and they can only be replaced with the glass out. You are looking at a good size project here so think long and hard about how much those chips bother you.
Those "windshield" businesses claim to fame is all about speed. They take pride in how fast they can swap out a windshield and get the customer back on the road. They likely don't want to get involved in a project that takes all day.
Instead:
Try a body shop. Preferably an old school body shop. Talk to them about the job and see if they can even get the glass.
But instead of In & Out in 20 mins, figure on leaving the vehicle a couple days.
Also, chat with your insurance agent. There could be a $100 deductible and they pay the balance.

From what I have been told from local glass shops, leave the chip alone. Because it is tempered if it was going to shatter, it would have by now. Some YouTube videos show Crazy glue to touch up the chip. I do like to keep this as original as possible.
I did talk to Hagerty Insurance about it, and they were not too much help except to file a glass clam .
