If you wan tto free up the space in the storage compartment, for an amp for example, no reason you couldn't do that. THe only issue might be if you need the jack handle to lower the spare tire tub.
I thought to prevent rattling noise. I have to figure out proper way to mount. I do see a spring lying in there. I’ll have to find a picture of proper mounting.
My spare tire rim is full of stuff, fan belts, bottle jack, spare electric fuel pump, brake fluid, trans fluid.
I take my car on long trips like the Hot Rod Power Tour so I have to be prepared.
Your jack storage sticker clearly shows the correct way to stow your jack. It should be on the inside of the compartment door.
your's is clearly missing. Perhaps get a new jack storage instruction sticker. Most Corvette vendors sell reproductions.
Or just look on a vendors website of that sticker.
When I do long trips or interstate runs, I carry my tools and a few small spares in my spare tyre rim. In my jack storage tub, there is a couple of aluminium pry bars to get my P02 wheel covers off, the jack lever and the jack held by the spring. Surrounding all of that, there's rags for hand cleaning and a large towel for laying on if needed to work under the car. The towel also helps to stop every thing from bouncing around and making noise. All that is under the storage tub, which also I fill with the odd spare part.

The jack is where it belongs...I have an amp above it in the tray. Spare tire has jumper cables, fan belts, rags, gloves, zip ties, duct tape, flat fix, tire plug kit, a better lug wrench, couple beers, ... essentials...

Why stick it there? My jack, spare tire, and spare gas can, fit in my wallet. There's room in the glove box for a spare HEI module and a few tools, though.

I don't have the original jack for our '78, it didn't come with it when we bought it in 1990 and when I looked at buying a correct item recently the price was horrific! I have an aftermarket scissor jack that works well and luckily fits into the space in the rear and is held down by the spring. That same compartment holds various spares, WD40 spray, some tools, cloths etc.
I carry spare belts in the spare tyre, but I'm a little concerned about the weight - I changed out the original spare tyre for a new item that weighs considerably more then the original, so not sure about loading up the spare wheel tub too much. Looking at what some of you guys carry I'm thinking this concern is unjustified!
