Hey guys, I have a '76 with side pipes. I just built a nice new 32x36 garage and I am not quite sure what I going to do as far as jacks or a lift is concerned.
I will eventually be getting a 4 post lift with a rolling jack, but that will be a year or two down the line.
Until then the Quick jack looks interesting. My main concern is the clearance. Does anyone use a quick jack on a C3 with side pipes? Any issues I might run into? I only bought my Vette last summer and just barely got the new motor in before winter set in, so now it is in storage and I don't have time to go measure everything because it's 90 minutes away.
So, any input or advice? I just don't want to damage my exhaust, or have the frame sitting on the very edge of the jacks with the risk of it becoming unstable.
Don't solve the problem twice. If you know a lift is in your future, buy a lift, or wait until you have the lift. Use RaceRamps in the meantime.
I kind of need both anyway. The lift will be used to store the Vette in the winter and park my boat under the Vette. The quick jack will have it's place.
Just not for the Vette. The link above answered my questions. I don't want to have to deal with blocks and planks and a couple of walk arounds to make sure all is good. Ok for my pickup and the wife's suv.
Anyway, thanks for the replies, guys. 110% helpful and I know what I have to do, which is spend more money sooner than I planned. The wife is going to freak. Lol
I have a 78 with C2 sidepipes and there is no interference with the quickjack. My pipes are outside of the frame rails and when using the quickjack it actually sits behind(or inside) of the pipes.
And if you might use it for the SUV, be sure to get the 7000 lb rated Quickjack, not the 5000 lb.
Good luck!
That's the plan because the lift will be used for parking/storage during the winter. Plus the quick jack seems like it will be perfect to lift my garden tractor and SxS, which the lift won't do

Good to know! Do you have to do anything special? I read where some folks have to drive the tires onto planks to get the clearance.
Just lifted my 76’ with Doug’s headers and side pipes for the first time yesterday. Looks very similar to the ones you have on your car.
I’m using the 7000 lb version with the taller blocks that come in the kit. They get very close to the pipes, but the blocks touch the frame before any contact is made. With the jacks all the way down I have plenty of clearance to slide the blocks in from the side, so having clearance even with a lowered car shouldn’t be an issue.
Two things I didn’t like about it though. First I used the thread sealant supplied with the kit, and almost every single fitting leaked! Save yourself the headache and use at least teflon tape if not both tape and the sealant on the threads.
Second gripe is that the blocks have to sit at their closest position to reach the factory C3 lifting points. If you are planning on lifting any other vehicles I would definitely recommend the 7000 lb model, but if you’re only lifting the vette the 5000 lb model would be a better fit. I doubt an extended wheel base model would fit underneath a C3.
Well worth the investment
I’m using the 7000 lb Quick Jack with a 71 C3 and have it pretty low (coilovers in the front) and have no clearance issues. I agree with the other post about the 5000 lb being plenty for a C3 (and most cars). Also, the 7000 model is pretty heavy. Ok if it sits in one place, but I move mine to work on different cars and it’s a bit of a PITA. Hope this helps.
I use the SUV adapters for clearance with my sidepipes. Due to clearance (BBC), I need to run the car up on 2” ramps prior to using the Quickjack. Quick Jack says you need an inch of clearance to build pressure. If I just used the blocks, I don’t get that clearance. May try it anyway next time I use the QJ.
