Default '73 Parking Brake Switch Wiring

I've got kind of a head scratcher here. The tan wire(s) to the parking brake switch have been messed with, and I'm not sure how it is supposed to look and how it connects. The wires were all taped together and there are 2 cut ends that were not connected but my best guess is that it has been cut and should be re-connected (?). The other wire has a crimped connector with a length of bare wire attached which turns into one of the cut wires. The switch has a broken off connector in it which does not match up with the crimped connector, which otherwise would have been my 1st guess. Does anyone know what is going on here or have a pic of un-messed with wires? The wiring diagrams aren't giving me much to go on.

I have no idea what they were up to there, and adding a diode.. well.

Here's my 72

The tan wire is the one you see going in there, the connection to the pink wire happens up farther... Same circuit as the brake warning switch out on the brake distribution block.

Hey Richard,
I just happen to have the harness out of my '73 (50,000 orig miles) right now so I thought I'd check it. That section of wire was taped up so I removed the tape and found the same diode.
Diode side goes up to firewall connector and out to the Brake Warning Switch. Solid side goes to the Seat Belt & Park Brake Warning Override relay.
I think you just have to reconnect a plunger switch to your two open ends and you'll be good.
Cheers, Greg

Now I'm wondering if mine had that taped up piece... I guess the diode would be since it's connected to both sensors...???

It depends on what year the car is. Early cars are single wire and don't have this set up with the Seat Belt & PB Override relay.

Looks like it must have changed in 73... My 72 only has the single tan wire going there.

Ahh... thank you Greg! I do have the switch- I had just removed it to make it easier to get the broken connector plug out of the socket on the switch. I never gave it a thought that the 2 bare wires had been crimped on that connector, so with your pic it makes perfect sense.
