I’m reassembling the brake/clutch pedal assembly with new parts and am wondering if there is an easy way to attach the two ends of the brake pedal spring that is on the shaft. One end hooks around the brake pedal and the other straight end hooks into a hole in a bracket on the housing.
How did the factory do it? Was there a special tool?
I's been a while so I'm not sure how accurately I remember but it took four hands. A neighbor came over and held the pedals and frame stable and I used pliers and a screwdriver to lever the curved part around the pedal. I assembled the array incorrectly the first time so I had to do it again and remember that once I figured out the best positions for the tools it went pretty easily.
Thank you, this has helped me a little. I was wondering which is easier the curved part around the pedal or the small hole on the other side. Four hands are certainly an advantage, I thought so too, otherwise it always slips without fastening.
Update:
The spring has a lot of tension, here is how I have tensioned the spring with the leverage effect over the hammer and with a wire. Hope it helps other people.

Reason: Udate
Definitely the curved hook around the pedal. I didn't use a hammer handle but yours seems to work well. I think this is one of those things for which there was probably a jig and special tool in the factory but something we just have to try things until we find something that works for us. Good luck.
