Default Center bezel console break prevention

Known fact these tend to break on the upper 1/3
very easily during installation/removal.

Thought I remember someone mentioning that you could add some kind of reinforcement to help prevent breakage.

Anyone remember this or could share what you did to prevent this from happening?

Getting ready to start installing vent ducts vintage air, hook everything up and test before buttoning down the console/dashes. Really looking forward to this enjoyable task. 🙄 “Sarcasm” alert!🚨

As the saying goes “An ounce of prevention”

Pictures even more helpful.

I have mentioned that in the past. If broken or as you said “preventative”, consider a small strip of stainless steel (thin) and adhere it to the side of the common break area ( side that is not seen). I would guess JB WELD may work to adhere the stainless. Even a wider piece would still be covered by the wiper bezel once installed. Just an idea.

I know someone had a great post on this but it was deep in a thread and now I cannot find it!

It was something like you are stating that
gave extra strength to that area. Want to be sure whatever I use will not impede correct fitment during installation.

Fantastic. Thank you.

mine is not broken and hope to keep it that way. Will reinforce with the zinc plated steel!

I suggest what I always do. Remove the right hand passenger side lower dash first. Lou.

Still have to modify lower passenger dash to accommodate the vintage air we had installed.
