c3 rebuild
Thanks!
There are many books on restoring these cars so not everything you want will be found here. YouTube videos are rampant on the internet as well.
I have a 71 350. It’s not ran in my possession and now I’m ready to start the “restore and make run” process. I have most of the interior out of the car as well as the engine and rather than just starting to reassemble at this point I’m curious if I should take electrical out or take the body off the frame and do a very thorough restore.
So my question is, in other threads I remember seeing people link 1 persons post about their own restoration, but it was a pretty detailed listing of exactly what they did and had it broken down and showed the order of what they did, I was curious if anyone knew which post I was talking about. I’m looking for an “order of restoration” type of list like, electrical, then carpet then bodywork. That sort of thing. Hopefully that is more helpful than my first post. Thanks!
His is very detailed.
I’m doing a body off restomod, but if you are planning a stock restoration then my thread will be absolutely no help to you.
You should decide how far and how much you want to spend and come up with some type of budget before you start.
If you plan a restoration then stick with that plan.
If you want to build a hot rod, then open up your wallet and start shelling out all the cash you have and then some.
Horse power cost money and is a rabbits hole many start but find un affordable.
Have a total plan of what you want before you start, and do lots of research.
The best ways to learn is ask questions here on the forum and buy an Assembly Instruction Manual, Shop Manual, Parts Catalog, and Chassis Repair Manual.
Start reading through them, boring, but you’ll learn about how to take things apart, what parts are what and how to put them together.
I still ask questions here, most are dumb questions, but I get good advice and use what I’ve learned.
Good luck and if you don’t post pictures you might as well not exist.
The point is YOU have to decide what you are picturing at the end. You have to decide honestly what your mechanical skills are and how much you can afford to reach your goals. Once you have your first vision, be prepared to change it a bit. Once you have a plan ( do you really want to trust all your money and sweat with an almost 50 year old wiring harness? Do you get an exact replica?Do you plan on things to upgrade like elec fans, stereo amps…) you will figure out what you really need, what you really want and what you can afford. Nobody here can do that for you. But once you start down that long dark road of C3 restoration, there are plenty of us here that can light the way for you. Some of those ways might be dead ends but eventually we all get there. Good luck.
