$400- for a rebuilt clutch? A C5 electric fan assembly is a bargain by comparison, even if you need a new alternator (and wiring), too.

can you post pics? not sure if original or not.. if it matters to you.
here is the education i got on fan clutches.. I would consider a HD clutch Hayden for Texas.. assume it matters AC or HD cooling too.. i was able to clean and adjust my temperature on when it comes on as well from OEM hot temp to 180f in thread.

Just FYI, two weeks ago I installed new water pump on my 1978 L82/Manual/AC, my original Fan Clutch was also failing. Spoke to Kirkconnell Corvettes and they quoted me around $300 to rebuild my unit and take 2 plus weeks. Kept my original and found a Heavy-Duty Fan Clutch a friend of mine installed on his 1977 last year from Carquest. Picture of package attached, F/C cost me $73, they found me their last one on the Westcoast. Installed the unit and so far, working very well. I was impressed with the quality of the Fan Clutch went it arrived, nice weight, and matched up with my original pretty close. I still plan on rebuilding my original in the future. I also heard Corvette Central has a nice quality aftermarket Fan Clutch if you ordered one from them.
