Default Windshield frame black-out?

I'm installing a new interior trim piece on the right side windshield frame. It doesn't look very clean - you can easily see the gnarly windshield frame. PO had painted the car in its original 1973 Corvette Yellow. Is the windshield frame supposed to be blacked out? That would help a bit.

You can see the frame on my wife's 73 that is white. Just looks smoother.

OK, as a Long time C3 owner, and a bit OCD about my interior.
I am going to answer your question.
FIRST. In both photos above you both have your A piller trim installed incorrectly!
Put it on correctly and it WILL looks heaps better.
A pic I took of my car seconds ago.

My Car is RED. You can see the edge of my hood and right fender to confirm this. Note how A piller trim wraps around the A piller and meets the weather strip.
Yes the factory blacks out the windshield frame. Over the top of the body color, from the front. There is no need to black out this section on the back side of the A piller as the trim covers it.
Take your A piller trim back off. Look at how it's shaped. Note how it's made to go OVER this section. Install your trim correctly. Crack open a beer or a beverage of your choice and admire your work.

If mine is installed incorrectly, it came from the factory that way. I am the original owner and here is a photo before I restored the car.

I just reinstalled like it was.
