Curious if anyone as tried this, this is not on my corvette, they have new tires, but thinking about doing it any way,but the tires on a 1972 GTO I bought last year, the tire are old,at least 7 years old,but threads look new, they are Cooper tires, and the letters look so nasty, cleaning does no good, and I mean Ajax with a brush scrubbing them, well,I was doing some exterior painting on my house, the paint was bright white,so I painted two of the tires, with a small art brush,Amazing, this is a 100% Acrylic Latex, paint,so should with stand the elements, time will tell, but looks amazing,oh,if you do this, take your time, will post some pictures later.I want to put another coat on them.

Many car enthusiasts have been doing this for years. You can also go down to any reputable hobby store and pick up the oil base white marker paint. They have a chisel style felt tip which is very close to the actual width of the raised white lettering on tires. I have been doing this for years.

D.M. ......

The Gloss White Enamel from hobby shops also works well....I think it is the 1 oz. glass jar,

It does crack after a year and needs touching up.

(I won't tell the story about my wife and defective RWL's)

Go to Napa, advance auto, O'Reilly's or even Walmart and they sell tire pens, specifically for white lettered/whitewall tires! Sharpie makes one and so does slime. Ive tried both and the slime one worked better

Clorox want work, that’s a cleaner, white letters aren’t white when they are new,so,bright paint is the best, but this is what I had laying around.

Off topic, what are the dimensions of the blocks under your tires? I think I'd like a pair or two.

They are 16 inches, and I stacked them 6 high,so gives you a little over 9 inch high.which is plenty high enough for me.

I found it MUCH easier to just take wheel/tire off car and place it flat between two sawhorses. Otherwise it's like you are working on a paint by numbers picture that is mounted on the wall at shin level.

If they are 7 years old you should replace them. Cheaper than replacing a fender when they rupture or blow out. I am a retired tire company engineer (Pirelli).

All tires continue to cure as they age. This results in the tread becoming harder and not having the grip of a new tire. Also the inner liners can degrade over time which weakens the tire. The tire could look brand new on the outside but weakened on the inside. Years ago we took some new tires from the warehouse that had gone past their sale date, mounted them on wheels and ran them on our large test wheel at 65 to 70 miles per hour at different temperatures. Guess what, they failed. That is why when they aged out, normally 5 years, we scraped them. Did not want the liability of tires causing accidents.

Not sure where that came from, but these tires were new in 2020.

Members advised me to check the date of mfg on each tire....subtract that from the current year (2024).
(Tires may have been stored in the warehouse for several years before they were sold)

Then you have the true age of the tire

Simple: Prysmian46 was referencing a post previous to yours and must have attached his comment to your post accidentally.

And yes, more pictures of your GTO would be appreciated...
