gas tank bacteria
This weekend I was changing the fuel sending unit and pump im my 93 40th after doung the same in my 82CE. When I took the sending unit out it looked like it had the measles. Little pockets of rust all over. Found out it was bacteria growing in the gas tank. Googled it and found out it grows from the moisture in the tank and is mostly in diesel fuel but also occurs in gasoline. It forms when a car is not driven much like some of our cars or in storage tanks. There are companies that make a biocide that kills the bacteria. If left unchecked it will degrade the gasoline and ruin the fuel system. I have ordered some for my 2 Corvettes and will put in the tank with dome fresh fuel. Just thought I would pass this along for anyone interested. For more information google “bacteria in gasoline” In playing with cars and trucks for over 60 years this is a new one in me!
