Default wiper cover problem

72 convertible. Wiper cover does not fully retract and when closed the ends resides about a quarter inch above the corresponding edge of fender on both ends. How do I adjust it down? Thanks for all help.

Please send pics… we can better assist if we see exactly what’s occurring.
There’s clearance/door stop adjustment screws on each end of the underside of the door, but if it was working fine before, then it’s something else…
Give more details & pics…

I recently changed hoods and now my wiper shield is doing the same thing. I havent tried adjusting it yet before I can find out what happened. I didnt touch it when I put the L88 hood on.

Look to see if a vacuum hose came off, or something physically blocking the door from closing (like a wrench, ratchet, screwdriver etc). Although if hose was off the door should go to full up position. Or if the wipers are fully parked… again, need pics!

I see two possibilities,
One is that the wipers are not fully parked and the cover is hitting them when trying to close.
The second is that the vacuum canister is not adjusted correctly. You should have the "pie pan" type vacuum adapter. The adjustment is done by removing the bolts holding it in place and then adjusting the length of the shaft by turning the turnbuckle piece and then tightening the lock nut.
If no one adjusted the stop bolts for the cover they should not be an issue.

Thanks for responding. I will post pics this evening when I get home. Have adjusted the end bolts as far back as they will go. The stop screws are adjusted in as far as they will go and are not hitting stop pad. Have adjusted the vacuum module screw adjustment as far as it will go. Panel is still a quarter inch high.

Then, as Robert suggested, it’s probably your door vacuum actuator rod adjustment… you have to stop & think how that adjustment works, as the adj nut has LH threads on the back side & normal RH threads on front.

Usually it's hitting the wipers. Open the door with the override switch and lay a piece of paper over the passenger wiper and close the door. The paper should slide out if it's not pinched under the door.
With the car running, cycle the wipers and let them park, then use the override switch to open the door while someone watched the wiper arms carefully. If they go down a little farther once the door opens then you can see about adjusting the park vac-switch that has some adjustment slots on the two mounting screws. You can try sliding it back (away from the wiper arm) to see if that lets the wipers go down to park before getting trapped by the door.

If the wipers don't drop down when the door opens, you might be able to adjust the angle using the screws on the side of the arms to make them go down a little more when parked

If not there, you'll need to adjust where the wiper transmission arms attach to the motor itself.

If the paper isn't trapped between the arms and the door then as said, the vac-can is set way off.
The vac-can usually has way more throw than needed and was supposed to be pushing slightly farther than shut as there's a spring setup on the rod that allows it to move more once the door is fully closed but a lot of them are seized. You don't want it pushing too hard once closed or it's trying to twist everything.
