Default Help with a unknown plug and wire

I was checking my brake fluid tonight and noticed a connector sticking out of my block. After some searching, I found this wire in that area. It connects to a mangled harness. Do they belong together and what do they do?

T

hanks in advance.

Coolant Temp Sender.
And somebody decided to bend the chit out of it when they installed the header.

You need to cut off that connector and put a shielded connector on the wire.

Is this the wire for that sensor?

A shielded spade connector?

Sure looks like it's the correct wire for the coolant temp sensor. Is your temp guage in the center cluster not working?
Whenever finding a unconnected wire. The first thought should be, What's not working?
Keeping in mind all vehicles have some unused wires.
In this case it does look as thou the original temp sensor was replaced with this one with the spade terminal, the original connector cut off and this cheap female spade connector installed.

SDS Photography,

Looking over your photos again, it sure wouldn't hurt to add some "slip-on" plug wire socks.
You have big block, big tube headers that will eventually fry those sparkplug wire ends. Then you get a misfire.

I believe the socks are good for around 1100 degrees, come in black & other colors and sold in sets of four. They slip over the end of the boot.
The heat protector socks are a bit too long in my opinion, so I simply cut them in half, to get eight socks.
Click on my avatar and look for my build photo album to see the product.

That wire also had a woven heat protector on it. Best to put the cover on it and add the connector last. Jerry

None of my gauges work. I’m fixing several things at once.
