Default Gas Tank felt material

I'm restoring a 1974 vette and in the process replacing all the fuel components including fuel lines and the gas tank. There are a couple of items I can't find for sale by the typical vendors and looking for some suggestions. There is some heavy felt like material on the rear crossmember and around the straps, somewhat like the anti squeak strips we normally put on the straps. Does anyone know what material this is and where I might be able to pic some up?

I used roofing tar paper when I replaced the strips on my '72 tank a few summers ago. That's what it looked like to me and others report similar observations.

Try Doc Rebuild - he carries some unusual versions of parts that regular vendors don't:

I agree, it's just tar paper.

That’s exactly what it is. There are variations in colors/weight, but if you look around, you can find a near identical replacement for the original.

If you want to avoid searching for a replacement and go straight for the real thing, Dr. Rebuild used to sell a perfect reproduction of the original when I bought mine about 15 years ago. If he is still selling the same product, it’s about perfect.
