Default 1981 Corvette Momo Steering Wheel

Hello all,

The steering wheel on the 1981 corvette I bought is in pretty rough condition and some of the horn hardware seems to be missing. I was wondering if i can get a momo steering wheel. I found this on a post:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c3-general/3024627-momo-steering-wheel-retro.html

But don't know if it'll fit my 1981 and if I have telescopic steering is it an issue? Finally, I wasn uessing I could just replace the horn hardware with this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/334281325492?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=SHop2P9oTfe&sssrc=4429486&ssuid= QPOizEHwTwu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&medi a=COPY

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks all!

Why not just get one of the dozens of 6-bolt steering wheels that work out of the box (with or without the stock step), and then buy a Momo horn button insert?

I thought the momo insert had to work specifically with a momo wheel, would it work with something like this?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/275283293968?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Z0mY3PMiS62&sssrc=4429486&ssuid= QPOizEHwTwu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&medi a=COPY

The stock parts would work with this. That's the (ugly) chrome Grant wheel, or a copy, but it is a direct swap for a tilt-tele wheel from a later C3.

That awful Momo horn hardware bellows might work, too, but then you'd have a C6 horn button. I didn't click on the link until now. I thought you wanted a horn button that says "Momo" for some reason.

You can buy repros of the horn hardware, if you want to convert back. You can also place a WTB ad on this Forum, and someone might give you a used set for the cost of shipping.

Do you have the ring that locks and unlocks the telescoping function? It goes between this horn ring assembly:
https://www.topflightautomotive.com/...aint-to-match/
and the steering wheel.

Top Flight also has much nicer steering wheels, with black spokes, that match the interior of your car.

My horn looks super weird, its like someone Frankensteined a tiny horn button into the middle of the exisiting steering wheel. I think everything in there would need to be replaced to get it back to normal so i am not sure exactly what I need for that. I found rebuild kits but I don't know if they'll include everything I need for this. That's why I thought the momo one would be easier tbh.

Please post a photo! I'm sure someone will be able to tell you what you need.

Horn issues are pretty common with C3s, so there are lots of videos on YouTube showing how to replace the top-end stuff. It's really easy if you have the parts.

I missed your reply.

Looks like most of the stuff is there, including the telescoping adjustment ring. Does that ring work? Even if it doesn't, it may just be one adjustment away.

There are lots of videos on YouTube that show you horn repair. You may only need a horn kit, and the horn button.

Here's one of many, many videos on this. After 90 seconds of disassembly, he's at about where you are. Are you also missing your stereo faceplate?
