Another wave thread...
Last weekend I had the Vette out when an early fastback Mustang gave me a wave & I gave one back. Cool, two old cars.
Today I crossed paths with a black C6 Roadster, top down. I gave a wave, nothing back.
About one minute later a young guy in a later Mustang gave me a wave....
About a dozen years ago. Here in Australia. Waiting in a long drive though line at a KFC in a northern Brisbane suburb. I'm idling in my Vette as it seems to be taking forever for the line to move.
In my boredom, I give the throttle a couple quick rev's. Ya know , the vomm, voomm ,VOOOMM! and then let it idle some more. Me in my C3 that has chambered exhaust. Sounds glorious.
Big guy gets out of the car behind me, walks up to my window. And says,.......
Do that again! With the biggest grin on his face.
So, of course, I gave her a couple quick rev's.
The big guys smile was even bigger, he thanked me and told me how great that sounded. Made his day!
my brother lives in Belize, not far from you and when he takes his 2015 vette out the mustangs and little *** cars want to race him, which he doesn't do it,at 79 he's done with that stuff. He does wave to all vettes though. He went to the car cruise today and said there were about 45 cars there as a big truck was in the parking lot.He said about half were vettes, including a nice 59 vette. I told him my birthday was coming up soon and I love straight axle vettes(had 2 of them),I gathered from his response that he's not going to buy it for me.Some brother I have, huh?
The wave thing just isn't as big a thing as it once was.
I find I don't make the effort as much as I once did because of the lack of return waves. I usually do give a wave to another C3 however. And generally do get a return.
But anything newer it doesn't seem to get you anywhere.
Sometimes others in any form of older car or Hotrod will wave, then I do return the gesture.
Running down the road at dusk tonight and I see a Mach 1 coming at me. It's a 71-72. Stock by stock. I immediately give the thumbs up out my window as we pass each other. I can't help it. He waved at the same time. Like the OP said. Just two old cars on the road enjoying the night. I love cars. It was a beautiful day and I was everywhere!

Yeah, we're all in this together...but now I'm getting mystified.

I get waves, and give ways to classic cars of all brands and motorcycles too. Seems like most in my area appreciate classic vehicles regardless of the brand and are happy seeing them on the road.

Over here we find that drivers of any classic will wave to another, be it a Corvette, Mustang, old Citroen or Renault. And even drivers of many Porsches will wave. Finniest is the moto riders, who wil pull up alongside when we are driving and give a thumbs up before pulling away, often with a wheelie! We even get thunmbs up for cyclists and I make a point of doing that to any classic car when we are on our bikes.

most old car drivers work on their own cars. You wave at any old car and they will wave back. Kind of like saying "cool old vehicle, good job getting and keeping it running"....C5 and newer crowd mostly just buy cars and dont know their head from their *** about mechanics so they are bought not built kind of guys....I waved at 3 newer vettes yesterday alone and got ZERO waves....passing older cars and trucks I actually got beat to the wave a few times....i dont bother waving at newer vettes most of the time unless they wave first or Im in a good mood and want to feel self righteous...LOL
Lately I’ve started doing a few revs to 5k when I’m next to or going along side vettes/mustangs lol. It’s more entertaining than waving haha. C3 is open headers, c4 is straight pipe with the stock resonator. Only a couple have revved back(mustangs) zero newer vettes have revved back

I get more thumbs up and waves from people in "regular" cars and trucks than the snobs in late mdl Vettes. All the Corvette shows I go to the C3 guys/gals are the most down to earth and friendly.

I know the feeling. I have a SW20 MR2 & on the rare occasion that I see another I'm never in mine...
My favorite non-Vette wave happened way back in the late '70s. A guy in a blue Opel GT.
He had a funny look on his face as we passed. I couldn't tell if he was embarrassed or disappointed...

I agree about C3 owners, C4 also... But corvette owners in general have a rather snobbish reputation amongst the (average common folk)...LOL... My buddy calls us the Alligator shirt crowd after those polo shirts with the little alligator on them...
Best wave I ever got was last summer in town, stopped in a little traffic at a busy light, t-tops off, this guy comes running up to me out of nowhere...I'm thinking Now What... comes up to the door and says "I just had to tell you that is the nicest corvette I've ever seen"... and he trots back to his car and takes off as the light turned green... And the other day I left the bank and this kid on a bicycle comes by and said, when I grow up I want to be just like you... and I said thanks but don't grow up, I haven't ...
Driving in my 79 with the T tops off and the windows down. I drive past a diner and I see a Honda Civic pull out behind me. He had the boy racer wing, fart can exhaust and lime green rims with matching windshield wipers, door handles and mirrors. At a red light I stop and he pulls up beside me. I'm thinking oh great, he wants to race. But he just looks over at me and says "Hey, nice Vette, enjoy it!" He makes a right hand turn and drives off. That made my day.
Wife and I were on our way home, Coming to a stop light....4 lanes, 2 left and 2 straight. I was in far right lane. A state officer rolled up in the far left turn lane on a state Harley. As we were waiting he hollers over......"that's the prettiest vette I've ever seen". Ummmmm, thank you Sir. Other than that quite a bit of waving around here...between all motor heads.
