This wire is connected to positive and draining the battery I believe it goes to the fuel pump It has a fuse and there’s a relay also Any suggestions Should it be wired somewhere else Thanks in advance
Back up and tell us what year car you have. Unless you have an 82 (and that post is for an 80-82 alternator, I think), an electric fuel pump isn't stock. If whatever is connected to that (almost certainly not stock) inline fuse is causing you issues, pull it out. You can test the current flowing through there very easily with a Fuse Buddy tester. You may also find that the problem is on another circuit, or inside your alternator (not fused).
It is an 82 the alternator was checked
I think it’s the fuel pump because the fuse was replaced when it wouldn’t start once
could it be the relay?
I know it shouldn’t go right to the positive
a Wireing guy checked all the fuses and when he pulled that one the battery no longer showed power drain
The fuel pump should have a relay. Follow that wire. It is possible that you have a relay that is stuck on. It's also possible that someone rewired without a relay. Wired the fuel pump straight to the battery. That would be bad.
you can pull that fuse everytime you shut off the car. Or find, replace or install a relay.
It will be a LOT cheaper in the long run if you buy a few tools, and learn how to use them. YouTube can help, or ask here.
The Fuse Buddy I linked above works great for any 79-82 C3 (ATC/ATO fuses). A proper multimeter can be had for $20- at Harbor Freight, or the cheapest Fluke 107 is less than $100-.
Was the pump running before, and when the fuse by the battery was pulled it turned off? If it were my car, I'd want to know what that fuse goes to (because it is NOT stock for an 82 fuel pump).
Many of us install battery disconnects to prevent discharge. Sure, it's a bit of a kludge, but it works. My car can sit for 6 months, two pumps of the gas pedal (carb), 10 seconds of cranking, and she'll start again in the spring. A multimeter will help you find the actual battery drain.
Yes, that is an 82, the blue wire runs to the alternator for charging, there should be another wire from there running to the positive terminal of the battery. The orange wire is indeed the fuel pump and to test it, turn the ignition on but no start, you should hear the pump run about two seconds and then turn off. Do you still have the crossfire and is it running OK? I think I would install one of those knife shut offs on the negative terminal and with is switched off, disconnect the charge wire at the alternator.. Then reconnect the negative and see if you still have a draw.... The relay is behind the ecm...
