Possibly with the help of photoshop and boredom... I question a lot of these super low resolution wacky car abomination photos myself. The reflection in the drivers window of the mirror looks off to me as well at the front apillar being in the wrong place and wrong angle through the cap glass.. These are about as credible as a political meme on facebook..

I think that's the fuel tank, not "Styrofoam". When you do a station wagon conversion of a 68-82 and include a rear bed floor as part of the conversion, you need to relocate the fuel tank to someplace. I'm sure that's the reason for the square tube steel rear crossmember/bumper, to serve as some kind of protection for the fuel tank.
