Default Train wreck update from last fall- 1970

Thanks again for all the questions answered in 1st thread. Just wanted to share a quick update and couple of pics. Finally able to drive the car.

List of things completed below. Right now, everything works, including headlights and wiper door.

I still need to replace weatherstripping and oil pan(very banged up) before thinking about paint or wrap.

I replaced the Holley(ran way rich) that came with it back to a Quadrajet from a 74 big block Vette. It ran quite well after. Whatever cam is in it won't let me get the idle any lower than 900-1000. The clutch and trans seem fine as well, only concern now is the clunk when first starting off or going from reverse to first. I replaced the front pinion bushing and that helped some. I am hoping just the high idle and 6 universals are causing it and not issues with the rear itself.

Joe

Beautiful looking car you have there, I'm glad you've kept the stock wheels and tires as I think they look the best on these cars. Your list looks very similar to mine....I've had the car 20 yrs and am still working on it Cheers

Clunking can also be a motor mount or tranny mount. Could also be the rear snubber hitting the frame as it comes up.... Hopefully its one of those or a bad U joint before the rear end but I would think you would experience other issue if the rear had a bad clunk like that

I did replace trans mount. It was a little soft but no difference. Motor mounts are good. I will check the frame at the snubber. Going to try and get on lift and have someone let the clutch out partially from reverse to first with emergency brake on to see if I can find the cause.

If the wheels are hanging make sure they don't turn because your u joints will bind. If it's a wheel lift, please consider chocking the wheels too....dont know what would happen if their foot slips

Thanks, going to using a frame lift and put high lift stands under each side to level out the wheels some.
