I'm cleaning and rebuilding my P/W tracks and regulators. For the tracks that guide the rollers, is it really advised to grease the entire thing like in the article/pic above? I can see greasing the roller axles well, but why the tracks the wheels roll in? Seems it would collect grit and junk and hinder the rolling action.
I thought the same as you. I have a copy of that article and the amount of grease they use seems excessive. Short term-doesn't hurt anything. Long term-hard to say. I opted to be more conservative. Used Mobile 1 Synthetic and maybe a third the amount. Windows go up & down in the blink of an eye.
I used bearing grease on the gears and ceramic brake grease on the sliders. A conservative amount.
the whole show is here...they work great if not go a bit too fast but manageable..
Excellent write-up post, thank you for linking it here.
"A conservative amount"? What would you consider a liberal amount? 😉 I still question why the roller tracks need any lube at all...
Friction reduction, they are more guides than rollers.
@Rescue Rogers I get it now! Just received replacement rollers and, even greasing the wheel axles, they really aren't freely rolling. My old ones were very floppy because the 3 little hub nubs were gone on every wheel, which allowed the wheels a lot of movement.
Thanks for the feedback and patience with my ignorance comparing new vs. old (damaged) parts.
