Default Gauge cluster spaghetti surprise

My least favorite meal!

First of many posts, though I've read a ton of great content from you so so far. This is a 73 4spd l82 I inherited from my dad. I have limited history on the car other than knowing from my dad that it was cob job after cob job everytime he dug into any repairs. He bought it in 02 as the 3rd or 4th owner. I'm shoulders deep in a 70% restoration and I just pulled the gauge cluster and console to add power windows and a retromod OEM clone Bluetooth radio and cigarette lighter USB charging conversion.

I'm very specific about my wiring and I cannot just stuff this chaos back behind the dash and pretend I didn't see it, so.... Can anyone tell me what systems these hack jobs are tapped into and possibly why?

I assume there was an alarm in here once because there's a red led with clipped wires drilled into the shifter bezel. There was an aftermarket radio but 0 wires to it. No harness, nothing, not even an antenna which I found coiled and tucked into a pocket on the pillar. Are the clipped wires to the top right of the top bracket the old factory radio wires?

I can honestly just run new stuff to the fuse panel, but I'd like to know what can be set back to factory and what might be some mod someone hacked in along the way.

The only way you are going to clean up all those butchered wires is to purchase a new wiring harness. Unfortunately the cost may cause you to vomit. I had a 73 with factory air and a Delco radio, there were many wires installed from the factory, even some that in my car that weren’t needed ie. power windows. I have some pictures of my car with the center gauge cluster removed and it looks similar to what you have. There are just a lot of wires going to various devices in a small space. Some guys have replaced the wires going to the gauges with a new custom built harness with multi wire connectors. The real trick for you is getting rid of all the wires that were added.
